Brad Koch

I'm Brad Koch, a product strategy and management leader with over two decades of experience in driving product innovation, enhancing customer satisfaction, and expanding market share through strategic vision and decisive leadership.

I excel at market / industry analysis and am able to leverage my experience, market knowledge, competitive analysis, and client feedback into actionable strategies that position products and services for market success in the education technology sector.

As a product visionary known for my ability to articulate complex ideas, I can clearly engage with various stakeholders including product and engineering teams, marketing, sales, customers, and C-level executives. I consistently build consensus and lead teams towards common goals.

I set the vision and investment strategy for several higher education businesses and have defined and created overall product portfolios, including core products, pricing models, and partner ecosystems.

I'm flexible, and have leadership experience in strategy, channel partnerships, sales, business and partner development, mentorship, and integrating our operations into broader private equity portfolios.

When I'm not working I'm enjoying time with Jules.  We just celebrated our 25th anniversary and love to spend time in Jamaica, or on our ancient pontoon boat taking mini-floating vacations whenever possible.

Recommendations

Here are a few recommendations.  The balance are on my LinkedIn profile.

"Our sessions with Koch EdTech Consulting were very helpful to give us a more nuanced view on the US market and how to differentiate our product in our GTM and Partnerships strategy.  It was a pleasure working with Brad and hearing his insights learned through first-hand experience across leading businesses in the EdTech sector."  – Laura Keith, CEO at Hive Learning

I've directly managed product strategy within several market leading ed-tech firms in the last two decades. And within this broad purview Brad Koch is a complete stand out as a product visionary and product manager. Brad finds and assimilates information very well. He combines a get-in-the-weeds-with-microscope level analyst of product detail with uncanny insight into the personal routines and workflows of real world educators. He's a love-product-critics-and-capture-their-depth-of-insight type of unground leader. And he's a "you got me, how'd we forget that, we're going to make this right" principled and highly trusted communicator to clients. Better still, he does this all with a personal charm and humor that keeps everyone around him in stitches. Combined with a work ethic that exceeds nearly everyone around him, he's a clear first-ballot Hall of Famer in ed tech.

Growth and Business Experimentation @ Open LMS

I have been working with Brad for over three years Blackboard, in which I have considered him a leader, a mentor, and a friend.

Brad has not only been able to excel in his leadership skills but also, he has proven to be a person with an enormous capacity for innovation and understanding of customers' challenges. Brad has always been an inspiration to everyone he works with; this has not only translated into excellent results but also in trust relationships that only true leaders can achieve in this kind of roles. Brad can be as effective on a call with executive leadership, as in an industry presentation, a product demonstration for a prospect, or customer engagement.

I recommend Brad not only for his professional skills but also for his positive attitude and the way he works with everyone.

Folks, if you don't know Brad, you should. Going all the way back to the ANGEL LMS, Brad's been a behind-the-scenes guy making the magic work. I've known many EdTech product people. Brad is one of the best. And his values are unassailable. (link)

Passionate coach focused on building high-performing teams and ensuring customer success

Brad is an established and well-known leader of Product Strategy, Management and Development in the educational technology community, having worked for Pearson, ANGEL Learning, Blackboard and now Instructure. Brad and I worked together at Blackboard where he was Vice President of Product Management and Market Development. His leadership and partnership with Sales were invaluable, and his ability to present strategy and vision to clients was second to none. I credit Brad with leading Blackboard’s efforts to gain competitive ground in the learning management system market, particularly at a time when its market position was declining. Thanks to Brad’s leadership and execution, he and his teams helped close major competitive gaps very quickly, something I will never forget and for which I am still thankful!
